Trade show exhibit fabrication is a specialty of The Metal Shop (Pleasant Prairie, WI). Because of short lead-times and the myriad of sizes, shapes and intricate mesh-work of tubes needed to build the framework of complex structures, a decision was made to invest in a Mazak FabriGear 150 laser tube cutting machine.
While the machine provided the advanced functionality to ramp-up production, pre-installed software lacked the sophistication needed to fully leverage the machine’s capabilities. Vice President of Operations, Todd Swift knew that a more powerful programming solution was needed. “Our concern was to find software capable of handling SOLIDWORKS® assemblies,” explained Swift. “Time spent reworking models is a step backward. In today’s manufacturing environment if your machinery isn’t running money is being lost.”
After evaluating several programs SigmaTUBE was selected. “The software really shone with the first project we were tasked with on the new tube laser,” said Swift. “Our client had the contract for the host city at the recent ‘World Routes 14’ show. The booth was designed to have a hanging canopy over the show floor. SigmaTUBE made it possible. With little information from the client but a model, we were able to create two canopies supported with aluminum tube. The parts fit like a glove. It is highly unlikely we could have turned this job, which had three additional canopies as well, in the two and half week time frame without this fantastic software.”
