For more than 50 years FSI Fabrication (formerly “Farm Shop, Inc.”) has been designing and manufacturing agriculture and off highway equipment. Today the Sunnyside, WA company is a leading provider of mobile agricultural equipment for spreading, feeding, and hauling applications.
New Nesting Software?
FSI has been a loyal SigmaNEST user for many years. But when the fabricator recently purchased a new plasma table they were persuaded by the machine representative to investigate an alternative nesting software.
“Production efficiency has a direct bearing on our profitability,” explained Silas Curfman, mechanical engineer. “Naturally we’re interested to consider tools that will improve our processes and save production and material costs.”
For many years FSI has been a loyal SigmaNEST user. But when the fabricator recently purchased a new plasma table they were persuaded by the machine representative to investigate alternative nesting software.
FSI performed direct comparisons between nesting software programs pitting incumbent SigmaNEST against challenger ProNEST. Mechanical Engineer, Silas Curfman vectorized a drawing and ran it through both programs. “In the end, I only used SigmaNEST because I couldn’t simulate what the kerf was going to do in the other program. Only SigmaNEST allowed me to preview what was going to happen before I tried to cut it. The piece came out great the first time.”
Unlike ProNEST, SigmaNEST nesting software allowed FSI to open and add parts to existing nests without completely re-nesting; a significant time and material saver. In addition, Curfman pointed out another important feature: “SigmaNEST was the only nesting software to allow the combining of auto nesting with manual nesting.”
