Earlier this summer, A2Z Magazine conducted an interview with SigmaTEK’s Bill Huffman. Here are a few excerpts from that article:
Industry veteran Bill Huffman joins the company’s Southwest Region team as Sales Manager. Bill joined SigmaTEK in 1997 and over the years has worked with manufacturers of all sizes to identify, quantify, and correct productivity challenges facing the industry.
A2Z: What can you tell us about the company’s emphasis in the west?
Bill: I am happy to join our existing team of Jim Elmore and Joaquin Gonzalez. These gentlemen have been doing a great job but we just needed more people to respond to the sheer number of requests we had from companies in the area. We are excited for this opportunity to expand our coverage and physically visit more of our current and future SigmaNEST customers.
A2Z: We reported earlier that a new version of SigmaNEST nesting software was available. Can you give a brief overview?
Bill: SigmaNEST version 10 features the industry’s most advanced nesting engine; but that’s expected as we have been doing that with each new release for many years. What needs to be emphasized is the ease of use, and the additional improvements our development team has made for the SigmaNEST user, based on their feedback.
SigmaTEK listens to, works with, and develops features to improve the way SigmaNEST is used by our customers. It’s a little like having a design team of 10,000 people offering practical insight to help guide enhancements. When our customers need a tool to help improve how they work, it needs to do the job well, but it also needs to fit within their manufacturing process. That only comes by having great features, in a flexible user environment.
A2Z: You mentioned Steel Service centers prior to our interview today. Are Service centers a major focus?
Bill: The simple answer to that is “Yes”, but certainly not to the point of exclusivity. Our customers run the full range and include those who process steel, composites, wood, glass, fabrics, etc… We optimize the operations of laser, plasma, oxyfuel, water jet, punch, router, knife, tube cutting, and press brakes. From the smallest job shop to the giants of the manufacturing industries — all are searching for areas where cost can be saved and productivity improved. We offer a range of products and services for measurable improvements for all size companies.
A2Z: Where are some places a typical fabricator can look for improvement?
Bill: It’s all about improving workflow, which improves efficiency, which leads to cost savings. There are other companies that provide cutting technology for a specific machine, or a particular process, but SigmaTEK provides a full service solution for your entire manufacturing operation.
When SigmaTEK talks about improving our customer’s process, it’s a start to finish philosophy. In SigmaNEST you can Quote from an internal customer database, Integrate with MRP/ERP systems, build, track, and complete Work Orders, import proprietary CAD file formats directly, nest parts with incredible speed and accuracy, manage inventory and remnants, print custom reports, and even track costs of post machine processes like bead blasting and final finish.
Any place where there is redundancy or wasted steps, SigmaTEK has examined it, turned it upside down, and looked at it again. Our in-house development team is passionate about improving where companies can find savings, and consistently adds industry-first features to improve these areas.
A2Z: What is your assessment of the industry today?
Bill: During the past recession manufacturers were forced to scrutinize all areas of their business – with the shop floor being front and center. Manufacturers who clung to business as usual are for the most part gone. As a result today there is a premium placed on automation. We have seen a tremendous return on investment for manufacturers who invest in best in class software to drive fabrication machinery and related manufacturing processes.
SigmaTEK CEO, Ben TerreBlanche had a vision 10 years ago, and began to build what is today the SigmaTEK Services Group. Headed by Director, John Leuzinger, SigmaTEK’s Services Group creates custom, Built-to-Spec solutions for companies trying to fill the void left by downsizing. Today automation breakthroughs have led to a stronger manufacturing return to the United States, and we like to think we have done our small part to help.
A2Z: Where can our readers learn more?
Bill: We recently launched a new web site that details our products and services. There is even an opportunity to try the latest version of SigmaNEST through the interactive Welcome Screen. In addition the site has information and links on upcoming webinars, videos, and social media. Of course we encourage anyone interested to contact any of our team members:
